c1945-52 1st Pattern British Troops in Berlin Cloth Formation Sign Badge
Woven red circle on black circular cloth patch for the overseas British troops stationed in Berlin. 1st Patt. VGC.
This formation badge was adopted shortly after the occupation of the British Zone of Berlin in 1945 by the 7th Armoured Division and attached troops for the Administrative HQ of the British sector. Legend has it that it was used to denote the city of Berlin, encircled by the Soviets occupying East Germany.
In 1952, the badge was augmented with 'Berlin' at the top.
