Scarce silver and enamel RE Officer pattern cap badge. The London Electrical Engineers. Solid Silver and Enamel. Hall Marked: Birmingham England, 'P' for 1914. Vertical pin attachment as issued. Maker marked DD?
Insignia: A Knight's arm emerging from a turret, wearing chainmail and gauntlet. Clenching seven bolts of lightning. Superimposed upon crossed rifles, surmounted with a Tudor/King's Imperial Crown. Circlet motto inscribed: 'ARS MARTIS COMES' Latin - 'Art for Art's Sake'.
Unit Formed 27 Apr 1897. In 1914 August the Unit was employed in the duties of Coastal Defence; Anti-Aircraft Searchlights and General Engineering work at home and abroad.
