Post 1998 Royal Marines Band Portsmouth 'Royal Band' Cloth Shoulder Title Badge Summer Dress

RMB Portsmouth, Hampshire white summer dress shoulder title badge The 'Royal Band' worn by bandsman and musicians which replaced 'Royal Yacht' and is designated to the RM band based in Pompeii Hants.

The change from "Royal Yacht" to "Royal Band" occurred officially in 1998. This specific date followed the timeline of the vessel's retirement:

11 December 1997: HMY Britannia was formally decommissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in Portsmouth.
1998: To preserve the heritage of the elite musicians who served aboard the vessel, the special shoulder titles worn on the right shoulder were updated to read "Royal Band".

While the physical insignia flash changed in 1998, the Royal Marines Band Portsmouth has actually held the honorary title of "The Royal Band" much longer—originally granted by King Edward VII in 1903.
