The Corps was reduced to HQ cadre strength on 12 May 1945 but reinstated on 1 January 1947. It became part of Fighter command in the 1950s and during the Cold War undertook duties that included the monitoring of nuclear fallout in the event of such an attack. The role of human observers was increasingly taken over by technology during the 1970s and 80s and the Corps was formally disbanded on 31 December 1995.
