Clan Murray of Atholl is a powerful and historically prominent Highland Scottish clan whose chief holds the title of Duke of Atholl. Tracing their ancestry back to a 12th-century Flemish nobleman named Freskin, the clan rose to immense power through strategic marriages and loyal service to the Scottish Crown. Today, the clan is famous for maintaining the Atholl Highlanders, which is celebrated as Europe's only legal private army.
