In 1983, the Yeomanry Regiment was equipped with stripped-down Land Rovers and took on the reconnaissance role. It was further reorganised and re-purposed as an armoured reserve regiment in the 1990s, tasked with the provision of replacement crews for the regular army's Challenger 2 tanks. The Gloucestershire Hussars Yeo lineage is maintained in the Royal Wessex Yeomanry by C (R.G.H.) Squadron
