The Women's Legion was formed in 1915 by Edith, Lady Londonderry. The unit provided female volunteers provided crucial support during World War I, working in canteens, cooking, agriculture, and motor transport.

The badge shows a classical female figure inside a floral wreath with a scroll at the bottom bearing the Latin motto "Ora et Labora" (Pray and Work).
