The City of London Police "A" Division (headquartered at Moor Lane Police Station) was actively operational from 1914 until World War II. It was effectively phased out when its central station was entirely destroyed during German air raids.
Timeline and History:
Establishment (1914): The force underwent a major reorganisation. It condensed its older multi-divisional structure down to four major lettered divisions:
"A" Division (Moor Lane)
"B" Division (Snow Hill)
"C" Division (Bishopsgate)
"D" Division (Cloak Lane) 1
Deactivation (1940–1941): On 29 December 1940, massive bombing raids destroyed nearly one-third of the Square Mile. The Moor Lane Police Station was completely flattened.

Merger: While "A" Division officers were temporarily relocated to King Street, the devastation forced a permanent restructure. The remaining personnel and local jurisdiction were formally absorbed into "D" Division (Cloak Lane).
