Circa 1939: The company transitioned to backmarks reading "J.R. Gaunt & Son Ltd. Montreal – Made in England", which became a hallmark for Canadian uniform accoutrements throughout the WWII era.

Modelled after the British Corps of Commissionaires, the Canadian Corps was formed in 1925 with the opening of offices in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. During WW2 they guarded munition depots etc. A national organisation was realised by 1950 with the opening of the office in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador.
