Pre 1989 British Army Colloquial German Language Qualification Patch Badge
Military Colloquial Speakers' (German) trade badge, 1945-1989. This trade badge, not an 'official' insignia, was authorised to be worn only by German-speakers in the British Army of the Rhine. It was only allowed to be worn on combat clothing (but often seen on shirts, jumpers etc), as a way of denoting German speakers should there be an issue with local civilians or Bundeswehr while on exercise. It was worn on the upper arm.
