1st July 1958 Gurkha Army Service Corps was formed in Singapore, with the first GASC recruits present at Sungei Patani in Malaya in 1959.
The Regiment has seen much distinguished service in providing the logistical support needed to keep the Brigade of Gurkhas and other units of the British Army operating at peak efficiency and effectiveness, from the jungles of Malaya and Borneo in the 1960s, where they became the Gurkha Transport Regiment in 1965, to the first Gulf War as part of Operation Granby, in 1991, where 28 Sqn GTR, with the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas, formed the 28 Ambulance Squadron which had as a formation sign the distinctive Jerboa (symbol of the Desert Rats) holding a kukri. The regiment became The Queen’s Own Gurkha Transport Regiment in 1992 and finally became the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment in 2001.
