US Armor Force vintage patch. Removed from. Uniform.

Armor Force, the combat arms branch (the others being Infantry, Artillery and Engineers) that governed tank acquisition, design, development, unit training, doctrine & research. It continued on postwar as well, eventually evolving into the Armor-Cavalry Branch. The patch was the basis for the patches of the 16 armored divisions that were raised in WW2, each division patch holding the division number in the yellow field of the patch.. All of the WW2 armored divisions have since been deactivated except for the 1st Armored Division, nicknamed "Old Ironsides."
