c1987 Counter Terrorism Terrorist 1 Squadron Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) 1st Regimental Challenge Coin

Australia Type 1 Counter Terrorist (CT) - 40mm cast pewter coin produced locally in 1987. VGC.

In the centre of the obverse is the S.A.S.R. badge. Around the top edge is the name 'AUSTRALIAN SPECIAL AIR SERVICE'. On the reverse is the bust of an SAS soldier wearing a gas mask and a protective suit. To the right of this at the bottom edge is the designer's initials 'MR'. Each issued coin was numbered in a raised tablet above the suited figure. The coin was designed by 1 Squadron, which was the CT group at the time. It was the first of the Regt's coins and only a 100 were issued numbered. Unnumbered coins were also available to serving members, this is one of those.
